Non-Chinese champions — the reshoring map
Complement to the Chinese export-control playbook. That piece diagnoses the problem; this one maps the suppliers the West is backing as alternatives. A practical lookup table for which companies and countries benefit directly when Chinese controls bite.
The logic
Every atlas material where Chinese dominance matters has a shadow list of non-Chinese producers that:
1. Are receiving government subsidies / DPA funding / IRA incentives to scale 2. Are prioritised by Western / Japanese / Korean offtake contracts 3. Get equity-market premium on Chinese policy shocks 4. Are strategically important for defence / semi / battery supply chains that the West is trying to de-risk
This piece maps those champions by material and by host country.

Which countries benefit if the Chinese export-control
playbook intensifies
Stack-ranked by direct exposure via listed companies + gov policy tailwinds:
1. Australia — most diversified exposure: REE (Lynas, Iluka), Li (Pilbara, Sigma), graphite (Syrah), Ni (First Quantum), U (Paladin). Country ETF: EWA. 2. Canada — critical in U (Cameco), Ni (Vale, Glencore), Ge byproduct (Teck), graphite (Nouveau Monde). Country ETF: EWC. 3. United States — REE (MP), Li refining (Albemarle), U enrichment (Centrus), synthetic graphite (Anovion), tungsten (GTP), Pt/Pd (Sibanye Stillwater). Country ETFs: SPY — but specific factor ETFs more targeted. 4. Japan — semi-grade Si, REE magnets, Ga, Pt/Pd refining. Country ETF: EWJ. 5. Korea — Si wafers, anode materials, tungsten (Almonty Sangdong). Country ETF: EWY. 6. Germany + Austria + Belgium + France — diversified specialty. Country ETFs: EWG, EWO, EWK, EWQ. 7. Vietnam — W via Masan; pure-play China+1 story. Country ETF: VNM.
Cross-ref to MacroLens country picks
This map is directly actionable for the 10-country DCA picker:
- Over-weight EWA (Australia) if long the Chinese-export-
control playbook
- Include EWC (Canada) for diversified exposure
- EWJ and EWY for semi-heavy + precious metals
refining
- EWN (Netherlands) for ASML — the US-IRA + EU CRMA
semi equipment beneficiary
- VNM (Vietnam) for tungsten + manufacturing China+1
Under-weighted vs framework implications: the atlas suggests these countries should be larger slots in a 10-pick DCA than pure market-cap weighting would suggest, because each has disproportionate strategic-materials exposure.
What's NOT on the map
- Large non-Chinese producers of materials NOT yet
concentrated-supply-risky: silver (distributed), copper (distributed).
- Chinese producers outside mainland China who could be
de-facto non-Chinese: this is a legal/political classification problem (e.g., Hong-Kong listed, PRC-owned in DRC).
- Downstream substitute makers (e.g., silicon-anode
startups): not producing today but relevant to forward substitution.
