NRFC — the AUD 15 billion Commonwealth financing vehicle established to rebuild sovereign industrial capability — committed AUD 150 million as a fund-of-funds investor into Brandon Capital's sixth flagship vehicle, Brandon BioCatalyst 6 (BB6), announced 24 July 2025. BB6 closed at AUD 439 million total commitments, making NRFC's AUD 150 million the largest single backer. Brandon Capital is Australasia's leading life-sciences VC manager, with offices in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the US and over AUD 1 billion in funds under management.
Unlike NRFC's direct equity stakes in individual operating companies (Morse Micro, Synchron, Omniscient Neurotechnology), this is a fund-of-funds commitment: NRFC capital is deployed at Brandon Capital's discretion across a portfolio of early- and late-stage Australian medical science companies working on therapeutics, medical devices and vaccines. NRFC states roughly one-third of its allocation is earmarked for early-stage ventures (business formation, technical and clinical development) with the remainder supporting late-stage clinical development and regulatory approval for companies closer to commercialisation.
