The Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise and the EIF (part of the EIB Group) have jointly capitalised a EUR 500 million equity instrument, "Climate and Infrastructure" (C&I), funded from Spain's Regional Resilience Fund allocation under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (NextGenerationEU). The EIF will act as fund manager, channelling the capital through specialised climate, environmental-sustainability and digital- infrastructure investment funds that in turn make equity investments in SMEs, mid-caps and infrastructure projects. Named target areas are the energy transition (renewable generation, distribution and storage), energy efficiency, sustainable transport, sustainable food service and digital infrastructure. No specific fund managers, portfolio companies, or per-fund ticket sizes were disclosed at launch. This mirrors the EIF's parallel EUR 70 million Klima2 cleantech commitment (2025-11-25) and sits alongside other NextGenerationEU-funded Spanish instruments (Alternative Lending for Sustainable Development, InvestEU Member State compartment).
